Celebrating California Leaders

This November, join a prestigious panel of esteemed scholars, authors, and historians from both the academic and Masonic communities for Enriching History: Thomas Starr King, Earl Warren, and Freemasonry.

This exciting colloquium will explore and celebrate the legacies of Earl Warren and Thomas Starr King – two extraordinary California Masonic leaders.

Speakers include:

  • Allan Casalou – Grand secretary of the Masons of California Grand Lodge
  • Ed Cray – Journalism professor at the University of Southern California Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism and author of “Chief Justice: A Biography of Earl Warren”
  • Adam Kendall – Collections manager of the Henry Wilson Coil Library and Museum of Freemasonry
  • Glenna Matthews – Historian, professor, and author of “The Golden State in the Civil War: Thomas Starr King, the Republican Party, and the Birth of Modern California”
  • Jim Newton – Editor-at-large of the Los Angeles Times and author of “Justice for All: Earl Warren and the Nation He Made”
  • Susan Ritchie - Parish minister, North Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Lewis Center, Ohio and associate professor of Unitarian Universalist history and ministry, Starr King School for the Ministry

The colloquium will be hosted by:

  • J. Guillermo De Los Reyes – Director of undergraduate studies; associate director of Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies; and associate professor of Latin American culture and literature at the University of Houston
  • Paul Rich – President of the Policy Studies Organization and Westphalia Press, as well as an adjunct professor at George Mason University, and a visiting fellow at both the Hoover Institution and Stanford University

Enriching History: Thomas Starr King, Earl Warren, and Freemasonry will take place at the San Francisco Scottish Rite on Nov. 9, 2013. Colloquium registration is $15; an optional catered lunch is also available for a separate $20 fee.
